The Anchorage Home Builders Association hosted its annual Housing Summit “Building a Brighter Future,” on Oct. 8, 2025. Local, state and national leaders gathered to spotlight the complex challenges facing Alaska’s homebuilding industry, as well as deliver important insight on what to expect in the coming months. 

Alaska’s construction industry carries a unique set of risks like high winds, ice and snow, remote project sites and the occasional wildlife encounter. Supervisors check the safety boxes including gear, training, hazard assessments, toolbox talks and housekeeping. But there’s a quieter risk people rarely name.

Anchorage’s new construction housing market is showing signs of strength, even as buyers and builders navigate the challenges of higher costs. New homes are springing up across the city, especially in areas like South Anchorage and Eagle River.

Recent graduates are facing some shake ups in the job market and U.S. economy. With the increasing prevalence of artificial intelligence, some careers are at risk while others are growing.
