AHBA Care Endowment 2017 Accomplishments

March 13, 2018

The Anchorage Home Builders Association (AHBA) represents more than home building companies, we’re an organization of individuals who care about building up our community. When we see people in need, we want to help. With this commitment in mind, in 2017, our new board of directors revitalized the Anchorage Home Builders Care Endowment – a program with the purpose of making a greater impact on our community.

We’re proud of our work throughout 2017; we supported families in need, helped to solve a community-wide problem and volunteered time to support young people in Anchorage.

2017 Donations

  • Donated money to the residents of the Royal Suites apartment complex after a fire left dozens of people homeless and without many of their belongings.

  • Donated 500 Carbon Monoxide alarms to the Anchorage Fire Department to distribute to people without them in their homes.

  • $25,000 to Salvation Army’s McKinnell House to support families facing homelessness.

  • $25,000 to United Way’s Coalition to end homelessness.

  • $15,000 to Dollars for Dogs to purchase a K-9 officer and promote a safer community.

  • Donated time and money to build a new deck at Covenant House’s Passage House, a home for expecting and new teen mothers.

  • Shoebox Program brightened the Christmas of more than 1,000 Anchorage area students.

Every dollar we donate makes a difference in our community and a positive impact on one of our neighbors. Our work creates a better community and safer housing. It’s also an opportunity to show people the good work of the building community, which at times is unfortunately criticized for construction projects. AHBA is trying to lead the pack by building a good reputation for our industry.

As we look forward to making a difference this year, we need your help! Last year, members donated a little more than $44,000 yet the Care Endowment gave away more than $134,000 to community members in need. In order to sustain our giving and continue to support our community while building good will for the homebuilding industry, we need donations. Please consider making a donation to the Anchorage Home Builders Care Endowment. If you have a specific charitable organization, consider donating through the Care Endowment, we can direct your funds to the organizations you already support.
